What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2013 Toyota Prius v?
The NHTSA has issued 9 recalls affecting the 2013 Toyota Prius v, primarily involving the hybrid propulsion system, software updates, an occupant classification air bag calibration, and an aftermarket tail light issue. Primary component: the hybrid propulsion system—multiple notices describe excessive voltage in the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) or inverter overheating that can cause the hybrid system to reduce power or shut down while driving. Other components: an OCS (occupant classification system) air bag calibration recall and an aftermarket tail lamp wiring defect issued by Genera Corporation. All manufacturer recalls listed in NHTSA records are addressed by free repairs through Toyota dealers; call Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 for hybrid-related recalls and 1-800-331-4331 for OCS/air bag inquiries.
How do I check if my 2013 Toyota Prius v has an open recall?
You can check using your vehicle VIN on the NHTSA.gov recall lookup or bring your vehicle to Nalley Toyota of Roswell for a complimentary VIN check. NHTSA records will show open safety recalls; our factory-trained technicians verify and confirm remedies at no charge when you schedule service. If you prefer phone support, Toyota customer service for hybrid/inverter recalls is 1-888-270-9371 and Genera for aftermarket tail lights is 1-888-963-9888.
How much does a 2013 Toyota Prius v recall repair cost?
Recall repairs are free of charge when performed under the manufacturer recall program at a certified Toyota dealer. At Nalley Toyota of Roswell we use OEM parts and factory-trained technicians at no cost to you for covered recall repairs; if additional non-covered services are needed we will provide clear estimates and offer service financing.
Can I get my 2013 Toyota Prius v recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be performed by a franchise or authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts and proper diagnostic programming; we strongly recommend completing recalls at a certified Toyota dealer. Nalley Toyota of Roswell has OEM diagnostic tools, factory training, and direct access to manufacturer software updates—this is critical for hybrid inverter and IPM software remedies.
How long does a 2013 Toyota Prius v recall repair take?
Many recall remedies are software updates or calibrations and can often be completed in a few hours; more complex repairs (inverter assembly replacement) may take longer depending on part availability. We encourage you to schedule appointment so we can confirm expected turnaround when we verify your VIN and the specific recall notice.
Does an open recall affect my 2013 Toyota Prius v's trade-in or resale value?
Yes—unresolved recalls can negatively impact trade-in and resale value because many dealers and buyers check NHTSA records and dealer service history before purchase. Getting recall work completed at Nalley Toyota of Roswell protects your vehicle's value and gives buyers confidence that OEM remedies were installed; you can start a quick appraisal at our trade-in page.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2013 Toyota Prius v recall?
Some state inspections or safety checks may consider unresolved safety recalls relevant; in any case, unresolved recall defects—especially those that can cause stalling or air bag non-deployment—create a safety and liability risk. We recommend addressing recalls promptly at Nalley Toyota of Roswell to keep your vehicle safe and inspection-ready; our service advisors can also go over available service specials and service financing options.
Safety Risks You Can't Ignore
The 2013 Toyota Prius v faces several safety-related recalls documented by the NHTSA, most notably multiple hybrid propulsion system notices that warn of excessive voltage in the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) or inverter overheating that can cause sudden reductions in power or an unexpected shutdown. These conditions can cause the vehicle to enter fail‑safe or limp‑home mode, or in some cases stall while driving, which raises the risk of a crash. Because these defects directly affect drivability and air bag performance in certain model years, addressing them promptly is essential. Nalley Toyota of Roswell treats recall repairs as urgent safety work: our factory‑trained technicians prioritize these remedies, use OEM parts, and perform required software updates or hardware replacements free of charge under the manufacturer recall program. Ignoring a recall can also affect insurance claims, roadside assistance coverage, and your family’s safety. If you suspect any abnormal warnings, reduced hybrid power, or air bag indicator issues, contact us and schedule service immediately; we also offer service financing if you need flexible payment options for any recommended non-recall work.

Air Bag1
FREE1 OPEN RECALL

Defect

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Toyota Prius V vehicles manufactured November 7, 2013, to January 7, 2015. The occupant classification system (OCS) that activates or deactivates the passenger seat air bag system may be improperly calibrated. If the air bag does not deploy as intended, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Corrective Action

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will re-calibrate of the OCS system, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
