Toyota Tacoma Oil Leak Safety Recall
What is the recall?
Toyota Motor North America, Inc. announced they are recalling certain Model Year 2016 and 2017 Toyota Tacoma vehicles in the U.S. This recall affects approximately 228,000 vehicles. The recalled vehicles have rear differentials that may leak oil.
What's the risk if I don't bring it in?
If the rear differential is leaking oil and continuously operated in that condition, the rear differential could become damaged. This could result in noise and reduced propulsion. Additionally, the rear differential could seize, resulting in a loss of control and increasing the risk of an accident.
Will I get a formal notice?
Yes. Toyota will notify owners of involved vehicles by first class mail starting in the middle of June 2017. Owners can also check their vehicle's recall status by visiting //www.toyota.com/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You may also check recalls by VIN at safercar.gov/vin.
What is the solution for this recall?
Toyota dealers will check the rear differential for oil leakage. If there are no oil leaks found, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If leakage is found, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one, and new fasteners will be installed. If rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one.

You can locate the VIN on the inside of the driver's seat door or on the top of the dashboard (usually on the driver's side as well.) If you are having trouble locating your VIN, Nalley Toyota of Roswell can help you with this.
